My Little Girl Wants To Die Poem by Mike Griffith

My Little Girl Wants To Die

Recently the princess of innocence,
But now my little girl wants to die,
Once so high - now spiraled down,
And not one doctor can tell us why.

On our 20th anniversary,
Crying beside my wife,
Once happy - now divorcing,
Praying to Jesus for my girl's life.

We got her the best help,
Our insurance would allow,
And continued to pray,
That she'll heal somehow.

Now two weeks later,
She's O.D.'d again on pills,
My deepest fear begins anew,
And my world is completely still.

Per her second suicide note;
She's 'found death's door',
She says she vows to enter,
To end the pain and live no more.

She is beautiful - and unconscious,
As I pray aloud and proclaim my love,
She hasn't spoken to me in 9 months,
And I wonder now if she even could.

Now she lays three hours south,
Full of anger, delusion, and spite,
Unwilling to talk or engage,
and seemingly unwilling to fight.

Who is this girl really? - You ask.
Just some statistic, a number, a stranger?
Just 13 years old - her name rhymes with great,
She's excelled in more ways than we'd ever anticipate.
Let me tell you about Kate:
She was born five weeks early,
but I swear she smiled at me in ICU,
Even though that is impossible they say,
But I have picture to prove the connection was real.

At five years old, maybe six,
she wowed her bible teachers by exclaiming
that she knew why God created mosquitoes.
The teacher asked Kate curiously
And young Kate calmly answered:
God created mosquitoes to teach us about temptation.
It is very tempting to scratch a mosquito bite,
but that will only make it worse.
So God also teaches us patience - said young Kate.
Kate is not an ordinary girl who has an illness and is lost.
She is an extraordinarily gifted young woman
who has excelled with vivacious energy at everything she has done.
Member of the Nation Honor Society.
One of 180 girls in State Honor Choir.
All 4.0 A's in all advanced placement A.T. classes.
Started a bible study at lunch at her secular middle school,
Who does that?
Self taught at piano and guitar,
An excellent artist and brilliant writer,
She understand the foundations of mathematics,
And is great at Spanish and science,
Active at church and has brought others to Christ,
So, what happened -
How'd we nearly lose her?

I love you Kate more than life itself,
and would do anything to help you,
To reach you,
To break through,
To save your life.
Lovingly, Your dad
