My Lover, My Bestfriend Poem by Kimberly Lindsey

My Lover, My Bestfriend

If I could see the future, Do you know what I would see?
I would see our love go on for eons, through many galaxies.
If I could see what lies ahead, Do you know what I would see?
I would see two people in love, For all eternity.
If I look back into the recent past, Do you know what I see?
A girl so hurt, and scared to hope, That she ran, until she got caught up in
The life and drama of nurturing a wounded dove….
In the process of nurturing, she got so caught up,
She was manipulated, played, toyed with and lied to.
The mind games, the cheating, the lies and the schemes,
Hurt her beyond telling….again… and again.
This girl is gullible, trusting and naïve,
She never thought this could happen…. To her, ... but it did.
And then here you come, and scoop her up out of misery,
And as much as she wanted to believe and trust….. in you…
This girl, she was gun shy, afraid to believe, afraid to trust….. afraid to live.
This girl, at one point, thought she would live the rest of her life without love.
But you saved her from that awful fate, and to you, she owes her sanity
For the cheater, the schemer, the abusive perpetrator, has the charisma of a cult leader, And the devil’s tongue,
Could make her believe him… but no, not anymore.
You have broken that hold, that link that he held,
that somehow told him “just” what to say.
You have banished it back, to the realm which it came.
And let love grow and blossom instead.
February fourteenth, you will make me your wife, and our new life together…. Begins.
I am so proud to call you my lover, my friend, and can’t wait to call you husband.
The emotional baggage, is quickly dissipating, I find that I trust you, and you alone, my lover, my, bestfriend.
