My Missing Grandfather Poem by Marilyn Lott

My Missing Grandfather

When I was a little girl in the fifth grade
I wanted to research and find out
About my missing grandfather
What in the world it was all about?

He disappeared off the earth it seemed
Very little about him was known
But I thought if I had a séance
Find out where he'd gone to roam.

So in the bathroom at the school
I sat with my friends on the floor
Around in a circle we were
We sat not too far from the door.

I called to him in a mournful tone
"Are you there, Grandpa? " I said
But nothing had ever appeared
I would study the scene in my bed.

And on Halloween night I wonder
Do other children think the same?
A missing relative they'd like to find
Or is it simply a childhood game?
