My Mockingbird Poem by Erriel Jimeno

My Mockingbird

You’re just a little mockingbird when you hop into my room,
That was few years ago on one sunny day of June,
Amazed and with a sigh I pick you up,
In the warmth of my hand you curled like a pup.

Ever since then I pour out love and care,
And day by day you grew much prettier,
From one tune chirp you sung a melody every morning,
A melody to my ear that everyday I’m yearning.

Then one rainy morning I hear not your song,
In your cage you’re staring outside for so long,
I saw in your eyes the dream to be out there,
My body shivers of the thought I couldn’t bear.

Who am I then to keeping you away from that desire?
Your life is not mine to hold but yours to fulfill,
Though scared of what life would you have there?
I have to set you free and bid farewell.

As I watch you fly happily and dance in the sky,
I could not hold back the tears in my eyes,
For I’ve love you truly and sincerely,
That the pain of losing you cut so deeply.

And then I realize this is life’s reality,
There are those that have to go and had to stay,
My only wish my dear mockingbird,
Before I close my eyes in eternity…
Sing me a lovely song once again.
