'My Mother's Portrait' Poem by Pushpinder Kaur

'My Mother's Portrait'

My mother's portrait

My mother's portrait
being placed in the most sacred corner of my house
The most visited wall in my day
looks at me smiling following my steps
The beaming smile the glorious simplicity and the effusive trust
creates within me a new wave
that holds and guards and steers my boat
through each moment each day and night
Adorned with the sandalwood garland
Has it become an object like the myriad others?
I wonder
Yet it's it's there
telling me
This is real my daughter
