My Name Is Eric Poem by Svanhildur Njálsdóttir

My Name Is Eric

My name is Eric
I can't seem to move
The ground above and the sky below
For reasons I fail to know
My name is Eric and I can't move

I see broken branches
All around me
They must be
From my tree
I see broken branches all around me

I have come to realize
That I hang
From the heights
Like Christmas lights
I realize that I hang

I must have fallen
from the tree
my foot got caught
in a knot
I've fallen from the tree

I am lucky
to be alive
Landed on my head
Than I'd be dead
I'm lucky to be alive

I see my mother
in the window
she wouldn't cried
If I'd died
I see her in the window

I think of my father
what would he say
if he lost his son
his only one
what would father say?

I thank the knot
that saved my life
I'm so glad
my family is not sad
I thank the knot that saved my life

Than I notice
that there is no knot
around my angle
as time continues
I continue to fall
Falling from my family tree
My name was Eric

'Falling from my family tree.' I love this line, this is a beautiful conclusion to this poem.
