Along life’s byway grew
A waiflike flow’r of beauty
That made me take a detour
Which now became my highway
Kissed by the beam of sunlight
Bathed by the morning dew
Before an ordinary bud
Now an extraordinary you
Picked from a garden many
Gently, with soft caress
To lay you in a special place
To where your kind befit
Rare and yet so much
Blest with vibrant hue
Adorned with shiny trimmings
Embellished with wedged bough
Daunting, perhaps menacing
Yet gentle in your façade
At first with hesitation
A second with firm resolve
Beneath the looming twilight
Amid the hazy morrow
Ready for pain I am
Ready, if the price be
Clenched I did with fervor
Angst tickled my nerves
Wailed but for a moment
Alas, a sweet surprise
Strong and yet so delicate
Pliant and yet so true
The hurt I can of having
Of losing, bear not I
Pent up in indolent slumber
Emotions now zest to life
With a promise and a hope
An eternity ahead –
Grow with me then into the sunset
In the bosom of my heart.
