My Parents Poem by chris schwartz

My Parents

Rating: 5.0

Sadness breaks with morning light
The sun shines
On the marble
Where you lay.
Doesn't seem that long ago
That the flowers bloomed
On our little house
All cozy,
just the five of us
But time changes
The pedals
You once adourned,
In hopes that we
Would grow
And nurture
One another.
Money buys time
And memories
Buy Strength,
Not sure which of us
Got the greater gift
From you.
I'm pretty sure It was me.
Rest in Peace,
My precious parents
I understand now
How tired you are,
And how worry
Never saved you
From what we
Chose to become.
As I sift through the baskets,
At the home depot
Each year,
I feel blessed
To be wise enough
to honor you.
And at peace
Enough,
To feel your love
For me still.

A tender, three-hankie poem, beautifully penned. Thank you for this one, Chris!
