My Soldier Is The Best Their Is To Me - Poem by kristy skaggs

its not just a slogan
be the best that you can be

its not the way i look at things
there is more than that i see

its not the things infront of you
if you open your eyes to look

hes not just a soldier
hes more than that by far

its not what he looks like
that makes the man inside

its not the hair cut
that makes him who he is

its not the patches
they just show you where hes been

its not the rank
theres more that he can do

its not the uniform
that makes up the red white and blue

its not the combat boots
that he marches in for hours

its not the scars
that you can see

its the reason why he is a soldier
so ur family can live free

its not the haircut that makes his life
its the love for his daughter and his wife

its the rank that shows hes dedicated
and the many hours he spends at work

its the man in the uniform that stands out in a crowd
he is a hero and i am so proud

its not the combat boots that are worn all year round
that put sores on his feet and smell so bad

its not the scars you can see
they are never shown to me

this is the way i look at things
there is more than i can see

i see him not just as a soldier
but as my best friend

he is the father of my daughter
and the key to my heart

its not just the things infront of you
if you open your eyes to look

you can see the things other people see
and take a second look

so to me its more than a slogan
because he is the best there is to me
