My Sweet Joseph Poem by marian johnson

My Sweet Joseph

I felt like a stranger in my own surroundings
And one day you came along.
In a life that was so chaotic
You were the only thing that didn't seem wrong.
With you the dark clouds lifted
the waters were calm.
Colors were more vibrant
For you held me in your palm.
You were my only constant
Aside from my brother,
You'd willingly hold my hand
To shield me from my mother.
The turmoil that haunted me
You looked past with such dignity.
I'd never met someone
Who could love me so much for me.
Ones life can be broken,
Can be shattered
But you still love me,
All worn and tattered.
Your love is boundless
Most times I can't see,
The love you carry
For only me.
You work so hard
And put yourself last.
When I can't grasp it
I just look to the past
And think of the boy
I knew long ago.
The boy who found my ring
In a mountain of snow.
