My Teaching Philosophy Poem by Ma Loreta Desalisa

My Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy in education is that all children are in school
to be nurtured and prepared for life.
It is my responsibility as a science teacher
to help them develop their full potential,
not just to inculcate knowledge in their mind
but also to instill the right values in their heart.

I believe that what our students would become
after our interaction with them,
we are part and parcel of it.
So I teach them science concepts in a way that they will
understand the wonder and how nature works,
also they can explain natural phenomena
and apply these concepts practically to improve life.

I already have realized that millennial students
work best in a group,
so I always apply collaborative learning because I believe
that after brainstorming of ideas,
students will then succeed in accomplishing their task.
Furthermore, positive attitudes such as teamwork,
open-mindedness, respect for others, humility, critical
and creative thinking will be developed with cooperative learning.

I perceived my students to be individually unique
in terms of gender, background and ability
so I have to employ strategies that will cater
multiple intelligences and differentiated learning.
Of course I understand that students work at different pace,
so the use of worksheets is of great help
especially in monitoring students' progress
and developing comprehension, analysis
and other Higher Order Thinking Skills.

I am of the view that students learn more
in a safe and motivating environment so it is important
that I maintain an orderly and well-cleaned classroom
even to the point of exhausting personal financial
resources just to bring an effective classroom
management which also require an organized
and well controlled group activity and well spent time.

I make sure I give quality time to entertain
students' inquiry of the concepts and extend assistance
to whatever part of the lesson
they find difficult to comprehend.
I also agree that part of a good teaching practice
is the alignment of assessment tools and strategies
appropriate for the competencies to be achieved.
So, I administer different types of evaluation
that are congruent to my objectives.

Above all, I see to it that when I teach,
I give my best so that at the end of every day
I can proudly say to everyone that I deserve
the compensation I received for the day,
and also say to God, that I have done my best
in accomplishing the task he has entrusted to me.
