A long standing relationship abruptly ended
My tobacconist and I had a falling out
My life no more shall be controlled by the evil weed
The many I had smoked had risen to the heavens
As I stumble along the path of life I make up my mind
No longer I shall be breathless, no longer shall i choke
For my choices have been chosen as if they were predetermined
There IS light at the end of the tunnel
I feel the warmth of the sun on my skin
I cough,
Remnants of the days gone by,
My lungs clearing
Like the morning sun that burns through the crisp cool air
It cuts through my conscious like a herd through an old rugged mountain trail
Liberation, no longer am I a slave to that noxious poison
Through my veins run blood and hope.

I very much enjoyed this short vignette. What a great way to celebrate giving up a bad habit, write a lovely poem. Thank you for letting me read and comment on your work. Peace, L&T
