My Two Pairs Of Shoes Poem by Shilpa Chaganti

I own two pairs of shoes
That hold a little magic of their own

The first pair is my favorite,
Yet is so rarely worn.
The shoes I step into
Only in my sleep or when
I get stupid and selfish.
Those are the shoes that
Fit me perfectly; made for me...
Like 'my' pair of shoes.
So often I wish to lend
Them to someone,
Just for a while...
The one I argued with;
Or try one I was judged by; or
The one who fought with me;
Or the one who loved me.
When they think I am
Crazy or when they
Think I need to be more mature;
I just want them to
Step into 'my' shoes and
See it all..
Feel it all...

My other pair of shoes-
The ones that are more often worn,
And they are a little
More magical, or so I feel.
I keep them safe and hidden,
Packed neatly in a box.
I take them out when I am
Feeling low and lonely
I take them out and think
Hard of the person
I love or miss
Or I fight or I judge
And the magical shoes
Turn themselves into theirs..
I put them on, in my
Silent, cozy room when I am alone
Staring into the mirror
Imagining myself to be
The one I loved or I missed
Or I fought or I judged moments ago..
The shoes then make
Me walk the room like them
See what they see,
Feel what they feel,
Say what they didn't say,
Do what they wanted to...

These pairs of shoes are
Not just any accessories
They are the reason
I am still loving and missing
And fighting and judging
And doing it the right way,
For the right people...
These make me see all the
Beauty in a person like they see
Like I see myself
In 'my' pair of shoes...
