My Vote Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

My Vote

My vote

Heard news of States
Teaching and Minister
Equal the "Yay", "Nay"…
Came in yes of magic
From the high above…
And things changed,
-now he is elected!

The news was concord
Or rocket to the Moon
Apollo or Soyuz?
Whichever
Whatever
I flew…
To March of Seventy Nine
In Tehran; in Iran
Referendum! "Yes" or "No"

I was there; elected by members
I was head
Made boxes, cubicles with curtains
Insisted: -Voting is private
Didn't know I was a fly
On top of pile of shit …

Before that I knew
My mind was firmly set
Not to vote
In wrong way and manner…

Things differed when heard an old lady crying:
-dropped red by mistake!
And cried and cried.
I exposed my ID
-use this for your green
-let the red one be mine…

Having seen cheats, corrupts
In them, faith I have lost!
I look back suspecting:
-did she lie, Taghieh?
