My womanlike head of the group
asked me to show her my books,
but I will not bring her the old ones,
I'd rather write her sometthing new.
I will grant her a citrine ring in verse,
or better I'll give her ring with true topaz,
they are not radioactive in my poems,
In verse - eternal life - is their purpose.

In your poem you describe yourself as both accountant AND poet and in this one a colleague at work acknowledges that you are both in asking for your poems to read. And your response is generous: you will write NEW poems for her reading and their quality will be of the highest gemlike brilliance. This is a poem that is filled with good will and people - yourself and your colleague - acting with altruism.
