My Words Poem by Joseph Anthony Montefusco

My Words

As my fingers touch this board
Nothing but my pure poetic soul is borne

And as my soul bleeds through my finger tips
It flows straight into the heads of adults and kids

But only for the education of malnourished minds
So instead of great being on the corner thinking about prime time
It’s reading my lyrics and giving your mind a time to shine

To learn about love and life is why I write
No matter what time – day or night
Instead of trying to fight
I write words to inspire minds concealed from light

My words can entertain like the Simpsons but teach like PBS
Make you laugh like a joke or make you think about the world
They make the truth be unfurled
Like someone’s guts when they hurl

I toss my words in the air
In place for every one to grab – that’s why they’re there

For slow minds
Who try to rhyme
With no lines
And no time
For any kind
Of any find
Or for making signs

Like road blocks or detours
Yet never knowing what they’re for
It’s just like we’re never sure
About doing what is right or impure
So we can never keep score

About right way or the crooked path
So if we stray the wrong way will we feel the wrath
Of that most evil one on a warpath

Or a rampage upon our souls
Our only defense is belief in God and every word that is told

Writing – the ultimate relief for the ultimate pain
That’s why my words come down like rain
On to all brains
And mind frames
That are full of shame
To give them hope and live again.
