My Worst Enemy? Poem by Koena Mokoena

I hate temptation. /
I can't lie i really hate you. /
Why? because you make me to commit things that will lead me to regret later. /
One day i want to be a real man. /
I mean i want to own a nice big house in the surburbs. /
I want to drive expensive cars. /
I want to marry a beautiful woman. /
I want to have my own children who will call me dad one day. /
And yes! after all, i wanna have a happy family... /
Hence, i will work hard like a slave /
so that i can live like a king. /
Listen, i don't wanna be dizzy. /

My aim is to defeat what you call temptation. /
Which is my worst enemy. /
But i find it hard to achieve my goal. /
Why? because of what you call temptation. /
It kills your desire to succeed like abortion. /
It may come in different forms for instance, verbally. /
Sometimes i end up being a loner. /
Because my peers indulge themselves in alcohol, drugs, crime & unsafe sex. /
hence, i don't want to risk my life, /
Because, i believe HIV/AIDS is alive & kicking. /
so, i will wait until the right time. /
Coz i believe everything in life has a place & time in this world. /
Well that's according to my own point of view. /
And i will stick to this decision no matter what they say or do to me. /

I am humble & active so this year i am turning 23 years old. /
and i think now is not the right time for me to be sexually active. /
NO, not yet. / Remember everything has a place & time in this world. /
I believe sex before marriage is a sin. /
hence, some people say that i'm insane. /
Because, they think i took the wrong decision /
by omitting myself in crime, drugs, alcohol & abstaining until i get married. /
I want to grow up & find a decent job, so that i can change my situation at home. / I want to make my parents proud because, they raised me to be a real man. / Not a rapist, murderer, killer or an alcoholic but a leader. /
I believe everything happens for a reason & it has a purpose. /
I behave like this because i have my own reason & purpose. /
Besides i am not a plastic but i'm a goal getter. /
I don't want to commit things that will lead me to regret later. /
Because i know what i want in my life. /

I wanna be rich & famous. /
hence, everyday i am placing the bricks towards building my dream. /
I believe my desire to succeed will make my dream a reality. /
Knowledge is power i believe i can walk tall. /

Nobody works to be the best where i'm from. /
If you have a dream.../
Instead of supporting you they'll judge, discriminate, insult & humiliate you. / and that is painful emotionally, mentally & physically as it affects your self-esteem negatively. /
I am talking from experience. /
They used to say that i'm insane & i'm a gay. /
Because i don't indulge myself in bad activities like drugs, alcohol, crime & unprotected sex. /
But with the help of reading books like love life scamto uncut magazine,
newspapers & information from the internet. /
Today, i am proud to say that i'm unique. /
Because i have a different aim to achieve in this world & i like that. /
No matter what they say, take it or leave it because this is who i am. /
