N.Y.S.C. Orientation Camp Nkwere Poem by Missau Missau

N.Y.S.C. Orientation Camp Nkwere

There we stood arrayed in national colours,
Peoples of diverse ethnicic races-
To be mergeged into one nation one people
The objective unity in diversity
In the coming weeks to follow i realised its futilty
These were not innocent children the mind a tabula rasa
Nay! These were adults with deep ethnic biases,
Belief systems, sentiments that had become entrenched-
Caste in cement, solidified, unmutable
Unlike children who could be moulded into any shape.
From the football pitch to the dinning hall
From the lecture hall to the hostels
I witnessed ethnocentrism at its very best
O! And how it saddened me
And i ask you my dear brothers this question,
Which way forward Nigeria?
