Native American Life. Poem by Maria Shaw

Native American Life.

He walked the earth with pride
his first born at his side.

He taught him to hunt and to fish
and how to provide and survive.

She reared her young and provided a home
she cooked and she weaved till the men came home.

She served a feast of succulent meat
laced with the freshest of hand picked herbs.

Drums, rattles, maracas, flutes, filled the cool night air,
as they danced without a care around a blazing fire.

Chanting, singing, giving praise,
sharing words of wisdom from ancestral days.

Such peace, such love, such harmony,
free from the clutches of liberty.
