Need For An Offspring Poem by Vidur Mohta

Need For An Offspring

Singing the factitious tune,
Of a well adhered belief,
That two souls aren't connected,
Unless they add to the species.

Based on the runes of yore,
With limited avenues to adore,
When love was a luxury,
A beautiful yet occasional story.

Set into a social confine of sorts,
By the elders in lieu of torts,
It was the only relief,
When two souls became dweebs.

Fable from the time of imprints,
Each person wanted to leave footprints,
Existence was dependent,
On who you leave to lament.

Times have changed since then,
You have a digital presence,
Love is freely given,
Your partners self-chosen.

The feeling enough to swell,
Any void that in heart might dwell,
Resigning any doubts away,
When being together makes you sway.

So the need to create,
An offspring to debate,
The time spent on a date,
While you hold the others hand at the gate.

Has lost its needed luster,
As already all that you can muster,
Is given freely to your mate,
So why should you relegate.
