Nelson Mandela Poem by Oliver .........

Nelson Mandela

O Silent earth, swart and rugged,
Benevolent Mother to our mothers
And fathers, take back now your
Glorious son, the chief black
Diamond of Africa!
An architect and testator of
Freedom is lowered into the
Secrets of you, primordial and
Archaic! Let him lie with the
Chemistry of your soil, Africa's
Hardened loam of poverty
Power, passion and all error!
The month in which he gently
Ebraced the dust was bleak,
Utterly sodden and numb with
These global condolences!
Soweto, do you now remember
That your brats were then too
Timid to the morning sun until
Like El Cordobes he came on
O earth never indifferent to the
Brave, receive this great son,
Afford and make of him the
Daybreak in the eyes of Nigger
Children and, ever turn out a
Metaphor of him to freedom
As sweeping Africa's tropical son!
