Nemesis Poem by Lone Dog

Nemesis

(A true story based on a radio 680 news report out of Toronto. The incident apparently occurred in B.C.)

A mouse in my house
Was near driving me mad,
So I set out some cheese
In a trap near the rad.

Then I wandered out back
So's to rake up the leaves.
And I soon had a pile
That would, anyone, please.

Returning inside
To fetch me a match
I was 'most' pleased to see
That I had me a catch!

Yes, I had me my mouse!
My troubles were o'er.
He was caught by his tail
And would bug me no more.

So I picked up the trap
With the troublesome mouse
And took it outside
To the back of the house.

Neglecting to shut
The wooden screen door,
I ignited the leaves.
Did those flames ever soar!

I then picked up that mouse,
Though I knew it was wrong,
And tossed it right in
To the fire, headlong.

But, escaping the fire
With its fur fast ablaze,
It raced for my house
Like an arsonist crazed.

It dashed straight through the door
With its fur still aflame.
I now knew that damn mouse
Was not playing a game!

I flew back inside,
But, 'twas nowhere in sight.
Then, I thought I smelled smoke
Which gave me a fright.

It took only one hour
Ere my house was in flames.
It was clear that the mouse
Had accomplished its aim.
