Neurotic Poem by cookie platterkrautenfluglehofel

Neurotic

Children of the greatest generation,
raised in fear.
That empty saddle with the backward stirrups whispered to me...
' you're not safe here '
Reading Tom and the Apple Cart with a new box of crayons.
Duck and cover in the hallway.
Look away if you see a bright light.
You're not safe here
An iron curtain, a red Chinese, a radio free Europe all warned us...
you're not safe here.
A draft, a lottery.
Go ahead and cry little sister 'cause brother
you're not safe here.
The summer corn tried to warn me not to trust.
Images of an enlightened age, megaton mushrooms rising.
Doomsday prophecy, end of days, dazed and confused.
Don't you know its not safe here?
Vacant skylines.
Am I on the endangered list 'cause I know
I'm not safe here
