Never (Empty Words) - Poem by Bryony Bratchell

Greeted by your silence
Reverberating and pressing into my eardrums
Filling up my mind
It grabs at my lungs
And I can't catch my breath

Why so distant, love?
Why so alone these days?
I'm here, just the same

I'd rather harsh words
Angry voices piercing my solitude
Than this vast open plane
Of long pauses
And empty words

I was always your salvation
I know, you did
Once believe
No one seems to know, now
Least of all you

Your many worries
And fears, pushed back
Fill up your blue eyes
And leave as tears
Tears only I can see
I see them, love
You can't hide from me
