Never, I Said; Nothing, I Did Poem by JohnPeter Creighton

Never, I Said; Nothing, I Did

Never, said eye,
enough to give for others,
as much as has been given to me.

Nothing, eye did,
can make up for all the wrong
you and i feel, what is here now
is more than we have power to change.

My nothingness is not more
than eye can bear at this time.
If, aye, one can own it, may no harm come
nor grievance seem so much in this wide world.

Never said eye that nothing, aye, did
meant nothing to nobody; but somebody
has seen and heard and felt what eye do,
and be that enough for now, be that enough,
be that as it may, what today eye feel,
tomorrow may mean nothing.
What today eye see,
tomorrow may be hidden.

Never aye, say,
and nothing, aye, do,
no one will be here to tell,
and no tolling of the bell
will account for deeds unsung
and sights not recorded.
Neither elegant nor sordid
be accounting for our sins,
neighbour relegates the story
to the annals of the past.

Never- ay! say,
and nothing ay, do,
broken sandal,
random clue,
only you pray
that much thee mayest do,
token candle,
fading hue.
