New Poem by Grace Petry

New

In that moment
the night was alive

She breathed in the abyss
and began to survive

The calm drenched her body
a chamomile rain

For the first time in life
an absence of pain

At the slightest touch of
another's skin upon her own

the hair on her neck stood
and shiver invaded her bones

Using only the burn of the stars
he ignited her soul once more

Left a fire in her chest,
enticed the phoenix to soar
