New World Poem by Kelechi Iheanachor

New World

Freedom in exchange for peace,
An outright sale or a long-term lease,
Seems like a logical transaction,
Except that the force majeure is certain destruction,
Where truth is offensive,
Reality becomes subjective,
Then we alter nature's laws,
To improve our human flaws,
Cajoled by the images our televisions beam,
Injecting the primer into our bloodstream,
Genetic corruption of man and beast,
The human herd, tagged, branded and leashed,
A small price to pay for immunity,
A chance to live freely in our community,
As it was in the days of old,
When the sons of God made earth their abode,
Modified anatomies with altered consciousness,
Replacing the soul with nothing but emptiness.
