Niambo Poem by Efren Petalver Carranza

Niambo

You're a wind that passed by
Gentle to the skin; playful to the hair
Touch a shoulder; dry a tear
Ease a sorrow then you fly

You're a calm river carrying a dream
From stream to distant mountain, all seem
Palpable to reach; inspirable to attain

You're a song, a music no one dislikes
The lyrics and tunes regardless of voice
You're played, sung, or even hummed,

You're anything for anybody's aspiration
A place of one's wish, in a desert or plain
You're the sky where all my longings lie

You're a shadow of truth and fiction
An art of illusionist's abstraction
Now judged by many interpretations

You're a house, a home of my soul
A room of my heart, a door of my mind
A keeper of my feelings, so here you hear
Me and you or you and I…all in one

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
On the Crossroad

The symmetry of life living in the heartbeat of economy has flat-lined the wallets of many. While few took the responsibility of their actions, blamers dodged from their deed [with ultimatum siege] by finger pointing to the government and to the greed of corporate leaders.

Of course, those who use their index fingers trudge amid the crossroads and get confused: "Shall I take left or right; or shall I go back or step forward? " Yet, there is no right or wrong when choosing the lane to advent our future until the point of regression is reached upon the core of our desire - a trait that we carry from childhood - that we are always needing one thing after another.

"The grass is greener on the other side, " but how we would know "IF" we stood still in an open fence and disregard the search for the true meaning of success. Thus, our try-outs "IF" we did, will we envy those who led first? Or shall we give them our hands to guide us through our destiny? Or will we read and listen to their testimony to perfect-pattern of our lives? Do we blame them if we don't succeed?

A calm river is clearer than a running stream. I am a river [being an Aquarian] and my preference is to stand still where I feel secured and comfortable. I am a stream but a follower for I am an eye of my leaders' step and, on the crossroad where we all face the unknowns, I become a challenger.
