Nigeria 1 Poem by BROWNHILL OBINNA

Nigeria 1

R.i.p to those who had fought and gone

i wail for souls who were bombed

hmm, speechless to those not yet born

and as for us living, let his will be done

why ask the cause of the flood?

when you know it drops from our eyes

and the blood of the innocent children

wets the land flowing into the rivers

i stared at our coat of arm

watched the horses gallop away

and our eagle fly over the coast

and the confluence over flood the city in red

dust has covered the white on our flag

and our greens are now dead-brown

but, i know she will be better later

because we still love her.
