'Night Of The Massacre'(The Night Just Before Elections Are Held)

'Katl ki Raat'
- - - - - - - -
a sleepless night awaits our leaders
for once, common people are justice dealers

for many the high voltage drama ends in a nought
people.like money, but their minds can't be bought

Siddu or Yeddy -one of the two will go into oblivion
a defeat now.means, road ends- it is quite obvious

issues of discomfort are quite a few
votes are cast as per caste - is a major view

candidates are selected.on caste
lack of true merit often leaves a bad taste

farmers' loan waiver is a routine promise
but the bill-footer is.known to every novice

history of mega corruption - common to all parties
mining and real estate scams- are quite naughty

Karnataka is a mature.state
robust economics, literacy, job potential are assets
with corruption poor governance is beset
the crass political class seems to be its fate

Delhi's netas descend in droves
do they.imagine they are being wowed?

don't they know that voters are mature
and that they can themselves decide their future?

NOTA is a wonderful option
but the problem remains - just to mention

the netas will be in for a major surprise
when with results, on fifteenth, they are appraised
~~~~~
'katl ki raat'- means 'the night of the massacre'
POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
After hectic canvassing, the night before elections is the most difficult to pass-for the candidates.They do not know what is in the minds of the voters, and how these minds swing. In Karnataka, elections are being held (this was written just one day before elections) .Siddaramiah (Siddu) is current Chief minister. Yeddyurappa(Yeddy) is the opposition candidate for Chief Minister's post. Who will win-let us wait and watch!
neta- hindi word for political leader
fifteenth-May 15th results will be announced
NOTA-'none of the above' is an option given to voters to chose among candidates.
