Night's Breath Poem by Lonnie Hicks

Night's Breath

Rating: 2.7

I'm the night you prepare for
with a soothing bath
as a lover does
with lavender scents
brushed hair
and anticipations.

I am your ebony dark
under the covers-
you and I snow-angel spread-
Anticipation's blooming
as I stroke your gentle face
our breaths slowing rising
as I pillow soft
slide down
beside you.

Blinding day is banished
as I your true companion
linger deep inside you
where true intimacy resides.

Where I
vampire like
stroke your nape

drinking deeply
of your trembling
secret needs;
inhaling all tension and sorrow too some days.

I am your sensual,
sunless companion

the one who's there

to escort you to dreamy unconsciousness

which precedes the dream portal.

I am the last one after the day's exhaustings;

the first to kiss you
in your soul garden
where our intimacy roses bloom.

I'm the blanket against the cold
the only witness to your pleasure dome
the only witness sometimes as you plow your sorrow fields.

I'm there in your dark, soft reclinings,
always there then
it's just you and I
and my ebony
clinging together
in our nights
bride and groom
secretly wed.
