Nightmare Poem by Jon M. Nelson

Nightmare

The darkness soon consumes the overwhelming sky,
I move slowly through the shadows along the ground.
The overwhelming sadness soon causes me to cry,
For I cannot bare the intensity of the midnight sound.

A lifetime of pain is suffered in just one lonely night.
My heart sinks as I feel the looming sorrow and chaos.
The darkness does not seem to hinder my sight,
I make my way through, although I feel the loss.

I can feel the nightmares spinning around in my head,
There is so much suffering and I can feel the pain.
As this dark evil surrounds me it is making me dread,
The distance that I’ve traveled with nothing to gain.

The evil tries to penetrate but it will not succeed,
For the goodness somehow will manage to prevail.
Even though the wounds are painful and they bleed,
Deep down inside my heart I know I cannot fail.

Reality is distorted and nothing is as it seems,
I take a closer look and realize that it’s all fake.
What was the cause of these nightmarish dreams?
I will no longer wonder as I slowly begin to wake.
