No Defending, Just Explaining Poem by Rose Stern

I used to think you could tell,
When you were being manipulated,
And yet, I didn't notice,
When I was.
You said it was rude,
The way I broke your friend's heart,
Yet you didn't see the pressure I was under,
From the girls who told me to break up.
I thought I was doing him a favour,
When I never really loved him anyway,
That of course,
Is just what they wanted me to think.
I still regret it,
Over a year later,
The look on his face,
When I told him.
This isn't to defend myself,
Just explain why I did it.
