No Expectations - Poem by Satarupa Rudrapal

I never held you back
There were no expectations
And promises to bind you.
I let you move,
Just as you wanted to.
But you behaved as if
You were bound to me
Like two prisoners locked
By the same handcuff.
I let you go and came away
But it was not till
I saw the white shroud
Flapping around you
That I really understood
What you had actually wanted.
All your resolutions had faded,
And the significance of
Our eternal moments,
Lay buried within and under
Your craving for the
Expression of our commitment.
