I love you
as I loved you
many years ago;
yet we are apart
we were incompatible
but we didn't know.
You set me off
I set you off
we couldn't compromise
and so we went
our separate ways
it came as a surprise.
You were my first love
I was in heaven dear
you there, right by my side
we were angry way too much
argued way too long
so we broke the thread
the golden bond
and killed the love-filled song.
I will always love you
you brought me happiness
but you also brought me pain
it was a great and tragic fall
from what the love we had
it left an ugly, blemished stain.
I love you
as I loved you
those many years ago
time's not healed the wound
nor dimmed the memories
and still, the bleeding flows.
