No Illusions Poem by Kevin Patrick

No Illusions

Rating: 5.0

"The Meek shall inherit the Earth"
Says the verse in Matthews old Bible
Though subpoena me with evidence
And I'll take to court for this liable

It's been said you should "Be yourself"
Well isn't that marvelous Bunk
Since most people prefer a visor
The rest you should throw in a trunk

"One day at a time" is a phrase
I could hang on a wall with a plaque
Unfortunately the rest of the world
Would prefer me to multi task

"Karma comes" is a lovely reframe
Especially for the vengeful mind
But don't expect nature to cook
Her soufflé lacks delicate rhyme

Apparently Patience is a virtue
Except I'm busy to pay for the cheque
Since time is my grand adversary
Awaiting to check mate my deck

I once heard "Life is a battle"
This I cannot find probate to fault
Since existing is matters long ocean
We are all ship wreaked to drift

A great poem, life can sometimes seem like a battle. But if we strive to be happy then we may find our way.
