No Need To Tell Me Poem by Francis Duggan

No Need To Tell Me

Since you live a long way from Poverty Street
How many poor people today did you meet?
You say that the poor for being poor only have themselves for to blame
Yet the name of one poor person you cannot name
You judge the poor for being poor yet not one of them you do know
And since compassion you do not have it you cannot show
You've never had to sleep out under the night sky
Yet the right to a fair go to others in your words you deny
No need to tell me of how marvellous you are
Of your beautiful wife and family and of your new house and new car
Of your marvellous business and your glittering career
Since such stories of success from others I often do hear
And if you say as you are a successful man of God
Why do you look down on the poor and downtrod?
