Not Ashamed Poem by Jasmine Thompson

Not Ashamed

She hides behind her mask
of courage and confidence

Not letting anyone
through to her sheltered heart

She hides from herself
because it scares her to be vulnerable

At school ahe's brave
She's strong

At home she's distant
afraid to share her secrets

In her room she is herself
the one she shows briefly to her friends

She dances, she sings
she's fun, she's kind

She's that girl I want to be all the time
but I'll never call her mine

I put aside that mask today
finally I am not ashamed
