Not Equal Poem by Jade Leven

Not Equal

I bet you thought you'd get away with everything
when in reality I haven't forgiven anything
you're not any closer to innocence than before
and the bullets you shot at me still lay hot on the floor

your mouth took the form of a gun and the trigger had slipped
I won't easily forget the words that fell from your lips
all the trust and courage that I thought resided in you
has so quickly and so tragically disappeared from view

your prejudice and arrogance has rotted out your heart
I see people being together, you see people being apart
I can't believe you sunk as low as where you are today
but I'll have you know I despise everything you say

you said women are not your equal
anyone who is not white is not your equal
gays are not your equal
the poor are not your equal
then I guess that someone like myself
who lives to take all that hurt away
to take all that unfairness away
I guess I'm not your equal

or, rather, you are not mine
