Not Mint Poem by C Richard Miles

Not Mint

A mint may be soft…
…except for the one I ate the other day.
A mint may be nice to eat…
…except when you break on of your teeth on it.
A mint may be refreshing…
…except when the sugar it contains rots your tooth further.
A mint may dissolve slowly in your mouth…
…like the tooth it is rotting.
A mint may have a hole in it…
…like the tooth it got at.
A mint may be sweet…
..but it disguises a nasty aftertaste when it rots your teeth.
A mint may be white…
..like my tooth once was.
A mint only lasts a short time…
…unlike the tooth which is meant to last a lifetime.
Why did I eat…
..that mint?
