Not My Thoughts Poem by Greg Gaul

Not My Thoughts

When I close my eyes
to meditate
thoughts flooding
and unyielding

I see with my inner eye
the monkey mind
an incessant flurry
worry about worry

You can tame your mind
separate the observer
from the observed
two mindful parts of you

You are not your thoughts
notice then surrender
resist certainty
throwdown anxiety

Intently focus your breath
settle into self
true presence
is not in thoughts

Forget the allure of grasping
commit to ever practicing
let perfection be gone
greet chaos headon

Live the ah ha moment
some inner peace is yours
relax then let go
move to the light
