Now That I Am Old Poem by Mohammad Younus

Now That I Am Old

Now that I am old,
I no longer wish to conceal
the truth of the world from you—
the Garden of Manifestation.

Gaze at the stars late at night;
watch the sunrise, kissing
the hilltops early in the morning.
He grows as flowers in His garden;
He dances alone in His Living Garden.

I care not if anyone calls it blasphemy,
or brings a Fatwa of Takfir against me.
I no longer wish to please anyone
but to speak the truth He whispers to me.

I want to be the self
God dreamed into being—
when I was not yet born in form,
but only an idea in the divine, untold plan.

And then He brought me to life,
gathered me with others of my kind in His presence,
and asked: Am I not your Lord?
I will make the rules, and you shall follow them—
my command. I am your Lord.

I create my laws each day
as I wish you to be, connected to me,
while you carry on, bearing my trust—
my essence, my spirit in you imbibed.
