Now That You'Re Gone Poem by Katherine Bryce

Now That You'Re Gone

With every second, my heart breaks
with every step, I die a little.
Knowing that you were always there for me,
and now- now you're gone.
You cared for me and you loved me,
you promised you'd always protect me,
but how can you now that you're gone?
You made me laugh,
and now you make me cry,
knowing that this
is goodbye.
I hide the tears,
that stream down my face,
because the last thing you need to see,
is see my cry.
What will I do,
now that you're gone,
you've been there for me,
since my very first dawn.
I knew one day,
this would come,
but never did I think
it would so soon.
Now that you're gone,
I'm on my own,
now that you're gone,
my tears are endless.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is for my big brother. He's four years older than I, and he's leaving to attend another university to study for his master's. He was one in ten picked for this program, so naturally, I am happy for him. However, he's my older brother, he's raised me. He's been like the dad I never had but always wanted. He would encourage me, and push me to do my best. He was always an ear to listen when I had a problem, and an arrow to guide me in the right direction. I love him dearly. I knew one day, he'd leave home- but I never thought it would be so soon. I always thought I'd have more time with him before he left home- and now I stand in front of that ticking clock which tells me, my time with him is over. It's time for him to start is journey. As these tears continue to flow, I must remember that he's following his dream, and it's time I don't hold on too tight.
