Oasis For Wildlife Poem by Deanna Samuels

Oasis For Wildlife

Observing the stone and rock fountain
featured in the corner
just beyond the pool,
it has transformed into an oasis,
an oasis for small wildlife in the area.

Every few moments a bird, even two,
would land upon the uneven stones,
quench thirst from the running water,
fly away and seconds later,
a squirrel would come to drink
followed by a chipmunk, a rabbit, a racoon.
Hardly a minute goes by without such visitor
from the woods and nests nearby.

Wild life activity is never ending,
each going about its daily habits,
nest building, den digging, food storing.
It is only when taking time to observe,
that local wildlife can be so fascinating.
Such is the wonder of nature.
