The rain fell long and heavily last night
Its downfall creating a thunderstorm within
All through the dark hours the deluge fell until the morning light
Skies clearing, a glimpse of blue appeared, a new day begins
Taking a morning walk around the neighborhood to gaze
Espied such a change from the day before wold
Autumn was then in its full glory, autumnal colors ablaze
Leaves of purple, bronze and burning gold
Today, many of the trees stand naked, bare and shorn
Their burnished dress lay beneath, torn and tattered
Lying in lumpy heaps upon the ground, soggy and forlorn
A brisk breeze barely able to lift, sweep and swirl them upwards
A thick layer of leaves lay all the way to the road's bend
Shoes walking through and over the scrunchie foliage
How sad, how doleful a way for the glorious autumn season to end
Reached The Path Behind the House*, strolled the final circuit linkage
