Obsolescent Love Poem by Bryan Taplits

Obsolescent Love

A love so fervent
My heart foreswore retreat,
It soared beyond,
and went above-
But no more
is it
what it once was.
Your arrows pierced
And drew some blood-
But you did not so much as quiver,
Though faithful I was-
Determined you were-
You left me abandoned-
Alone-and in the cold-left to shiver.

Unfeeling you were-so
you showed me no scorn-
For I was nothing but a mere pet,
That girl that once I wanted-
Had heartlessly punted-
And too soon
Wickedly and wantonly had grown up.

And though this Praetorian Guardsman-
Though unsteady, is still loyal-
And will ever be your targeted love true,
Sadly-and inevitably,
my dear falling and fading away love-
I've had to grow up too.
