Ocean Thoughts Poem by Dana Koons

Ocean Thoughts

Rating: 5.0

(Dedicated to my sister Cheryl and her love of the ocean)

Beautifully a boundless sea embraces early dawn and brink of night,
When golden stoles of godly fire off her shoulder glance,
Cresting waves, like lover’s gaze, reflect a lovely light,
Restless tides do ebb and flow like dresses in the dance.

Whimsically my heart alights when wondering sunny shore,
How mystic moods in waters vast impart to frothy surf,
Where unseen spirits beckon me to seek the tiny treasures of the lore,
Seductive is my capture, drawn like moon to earth.

Calming is the mighty gale that dies upon the dunes of tawny sand,
Ghostly so this eulogy which stirs the wispy grass,
Nowhere else an ancient song so softly laid on land,
Nor better place, a kiss to taste, while reminiscing past.

Endless seems the briny realm of canyons deep to shallow reef,
Enchanting creatures roam unchanged since prehistoric days,
To simply bathe my skin within, soothes my soul and quells my grief,
Afloat like ship released from berth I drift in wondrous ways.

I long for day to go again and revel in this peaceful primal place,
And thank her for the bounty and peace she’s given me,
Before that time, in dreams I’ll find, her sun upon my face,
Until the ocean calls me home and I am finally………free.
