Ode To Bygone Friends
Would you hate me
if I was no longer your royalty?
If the diamonds in my crown
have all fallen down?
Oh, my fan, all my paper glory
the pictures, the poetry
have been tossed into the garbage
and I have slipped into middle age
Would you still love me
if there was nothing going for me
all those years we were apart
but my pulsating heart?
