O Courage standing bare before the storm,
Unarmed by shields of habit or disguise,
You choose the truth though trembling in its form,
And meet the world with unaverted eyes.
No polished armor guards your open chest,
No practiced speech prepares you for the blow;
Yet in that naked stance you stand possessed
Of strength the hidden-hearted never know.
You step into the light with wounds in view,
Refusing lies that promise safer ground;
What fear would seal, your quiet will breaks through,
And turns a faltering heartbeat into sound.
O Courage, bare and human, teach us this:
That bravery is not the lack of dread,
But choosing still to stand, to speak, to risk,
With nothing left but truth the soul has said.
