Of Ravages Poem by kallol shome

Of Ravages

Of Ravages

How did I not notice…
The ravages they left on you
All these nights...
Nights no darker than those
When I invented your darkness; true
To nestle my hope and hopelessness.

And you said in silent screams
Only scars would seek them out...
Ravages...only the deepest, irreparable
Would open ‘em up to the stream
In which words swam in glee
Like creatures crazed.

You said no more and I heard no more,
As you gave in to the scars descending
Like strings of stars;
For you knew you’d ever haunt my wiles
Long after your tales of ravages were
Forsaken by words - born out of
Your darkness -
Where my hope and hopelessness jostled
Like benign rivals.
